Report shows Tulsa County alone has had well over 300 prescription drug-related deaths in the last three years. An article appearing in the Tulsa World featured the story of a 17 year-old student who died from accidental overdose on painkillers and cough medicine. It wasn't an isolated incident, as hundreds of people have lost their lives due to prescription drug addiction in the area. In fact, the newspaper reported that about 10 percent of all Medical Examiner death investigations since 2007 involved some sort of prescription pills. The Oklahoma Department of Health Injury and Prevention services claims that roughly 400 people died in the state in 2006 from accidental prescription drug overdoses, and the numbers have been increasing since then. The prescription drug epidemic is no joke. Get help before it's too late. Find out about your Oklahoma addiction treatment options or contact us for more information on Oklahoma drug rehab programs. |
